Typical areas of interest included in the scope of the program are: theory of weather and climate, air pollution from industrial and natural sources, urban environmental health, global climactic change, paleoclimatology, hydro meteorology, and dynamics of atmospheric and oceanic motions. The program is individually planned for each student through a faculty adviser system.
Undergraduate study of the natural environment can be pursued in the departments of Chemical Engineering, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, and Geology & Geophysics; the programs in Environmental Engineering and Environmental Studies; and courses in the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. The built environment can be studied in courses in Architecture, and in Study of the City.
The B.A. degree in Engineering Sciences (Environmental) offers the most flexibility. This degree is the choice of students who know that a good grounding in environmental engineering will provide them with a major advantage in careers in law, business, medicine, or public service.
